In addition to Hosted Blog Platforms, there is also the other type of blog platform – Selfhosted Blog Platforms – , which is hosted under your own domain/URL.
Selfhosted blog platforms are ideal if you want more control or flexibility with your blogging. They can be configured to look and to be adapted into configurations that are limited only by your imagination.
There are some other advantages of using hosted blog platforms:
Domain/URL: as you’ve probably known that having your own domain name/URL is great for many reasons. Firstly, it is easier to remember, secondly it is more professional and thirdly it is also very usefull your own personal brand.
Free Platforms: of course you have to pay for your web hosting but the platforms systems themselves are open source and usually free to run. Some platforms do have license fees if you are having multiple blogs or using them for commercial purposes.
Full Control: depending on your ability with web design selfhosted blogs generally are very adaptable. Of course those bloggers with little ability in this area may either need to use default templates (with the same limitations as default templates of hosted blogs) or get others to help with this.
Adaptability: many of selfhosted blog platforms have communities of developers producing similar arrays of plugins, which are very adaptable with your designs and templates.
Some selfhosted blog platforms are:
